Semifinal Matches Set for Heart Women's Volleyball Conference Tournament
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – With three of the top four seeds coming away with wins, the semfinal matchups are set for the 2025 Heart of America Women's Volleyball Conference Tournament.
#1 Grand View Defeats #8 Benedictine, 3-1
Grand View had three players reach double figures in kills as Vitoria Campos Mello had a game-high 21 and Mariana de Carvalho and Ellie Dougherty added 16 and 10 respectively. The Ravens' Bridget O'Sullivan had a team-high 20 kills while Barbara Terra tacked on 15 kills.
After Grand View took the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-22, set three was a battle which Benedictine came out on top of by a score of 32-30 and forced a fourth set. Grand View then found their stride in the fourth set to win the set, 25-14 and won the match, 3-1 to advance to the Heart Semifinals.
#2 Missouri Baptist Defeats #7 William Woods, 3-0
Gabi Jakubowska led all players with 19 kills on Saturday, while Pamela Durazo led William Woods with six kills. The Owls' Erin Treis led the team with 15 assists and MBU's Valentina Navarros tallied 37 assists.
The Spartans started out with a 25-20 win in set one and followed it up with another 25-21 win in set two. Carrying that momentum into the third set, MBU took the third set, 25-15 and swept the match, 3-0 to advance to the Heart Semifinals.
#3 MidAmerica Nazarene Defeats #6 Baker, 3-1
Both teams had multiple players reach double figures in kills as Baker had two and MNU had four. Isabella Munari, Mia Olson, Alyssa Reichard and Avery Lowe had 20, 13, 13, and 10 respectively, while Baker's Aby Widhalm and Kylie Murray had 15 and 10.
After MNU took the first set, 25-21, Baker bounced back in a set two battle to win 32-30 and tie the match at one. Again it was a tight one in set three, but the Pioneers came away with a 27-25 in set three before pulling away in the fourth set, 25-10 to win the match, 3-1 and advance to the Heart Semfinals.
#5 Park Defeats #4 Central Methodist, 3-1
In the only upset of the quarterfinal round, Park defeated Central Methodist in four sets. Park's Indi Zatic had 21 kills in the match, while teammate Daniela Gomez added 17. Joana Milho and Martina Gonzato of Central Methodist also reached double figures with 18 and 12 respectively.
Park was able to win the first set of the day, 25-20, but after Central Methodist won set two by a score of 25-23, the Pirates won two tight sets in set three and four by scores of 25-23 and 26-24 to upset the Eagles and advance to the Heart Semifinals.
