2022 Heart Women’s Basketball Postseason Awards and All-Conference Teams Announced
The Heart of America Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2022 Heart Women’s Basketball Postseason awards and All-Conference Teams.
The Heart of America Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2022 Heart Women's Basketball Postseason awards and All-Conference Teams.
The list features players from across the conference that were awarded to the First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention All-Conference teams. For the first time, the Heart will also honor an All-Defensive Team.
The awards and All-Conference teams were voted on by the Heart head coaches.
Below please find the list of 2022 winners.
2022 Heart Women's Basketball Coach of the Year – Courtney Boyd – Clarke University
Coach Boyd led the Pride to their first-ever Heart regular season title this season with a 26-4 overall record and 17-2 record in Heart play to earn the title outright. The Pride are also looking for their second-straight Heart Conference Tournament Championship, as they defeated MidAmerica Nazarene in the 2021 Tournament. The Pride are the North No. 1 seed in the upcoming Heart Conference Tournament and will host South No. 4 Evangel on Thursday in the Heart Quarterfinals.
2022 Heart Women's Basketball Player of the Year – Arleighshya McElroy – Central Methodist University
McElroy led the Eagles in scoring this season, averaging 20.7 points per game. She also averaged 5.6 rebounds per game and 4.2 assists per contest. The senior scored a season-high 43 points against Missouri Valley back on December 11.
2022 Heart Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year – Ana Arroyo – Missouri Valley College
Arroyo averaged 3.3 blocks per game this season for the Vikings and led the team in rebounds with 8.4 per contest. The sophomore finished the regular season with 93 total blocks.
2022 Heart Women's Basketball Freshman of the Year – Giavanna Moore – Missouri Valley
Moore was selected the Heart Freshman of the Year after averaging 14.6 points per game, as well as 4.3 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per contest. She also shot an impressive, 89.1-percent from free-throw line this season.
2022 Heart Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Year – Arleighshya McElroy – Central Methodist University
McElroy scored in double figures in every game she appeared in this season and scored 20 or more points 12 times in the regular season.
