Heart Softball Conference Tournament: Day Three Recap
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Heart Conference Championship matchup is set as No. 1 Missouri Baptist will face off with No. 2 Central Methodist on Sunday, May 3.
Game 11: No. 2 Central Methodist Defeats No. 1 Missouri Baptist, 13-1 (5 Inn.)
Runs came early and often in this one for Central Methodist as they jumped out to a 2-1 lead after one inning highlighted by a Maddie Holly triple. The Eagles then scored six in the second on a single from Elizabeth Palumbo, doubles from Kaysie Jolley and Maddie Holly and a home run from Madison Roberts.
The Eagles didn't stop there as they tacked on two in the third and three more in the fifth before run-ruling the Spartans in five innings, 13-1. With the win, Central Methodist clinches their spot in the title game at 12 p.m., on Sunday, May 3. With the loss, Missouri Baptist moved into the consolation bracket and took on Grand View on Saturday evening.
Game 12: No. 3 Grand View Defeats No. 6 William Woods, 5-1
Grand View's Madeline Waldorf allowed just two hits in the game on Saturday as Grand View won, 5-1. Two runs in the second started things off for the Vikings, and a single up the middle from Alexia Jarrett in the fifth stretched the lead to 3-0.
After William Woods scored a run in the top of the sixth, a Nevaeh Randall single scored two of their own in the bottom half to put the game away and come away with a 5-1 victory. With the win, No. 3 Grand View advanced to take on Missouri Baptist in the consolation bracket. With the loss, William Woods' tournament has come to an end.
Game 13: No. 1 Missouri Baptist Defeats No. 3 Grand View, 3-2
Both teams had eight hits in the game, but Missouri Baptist was able to come away with the win on Saturday evening, 3-2. It wasn't until the fourth inning that either team scored, but a sac-fly from Alexia Jarrett gave Grand View a 1-0 lead.
Iin the bottom of the fifth, a Makayla Johnson single scored one and tied the game at one, setting up the Spartans to scored two more in the sixth on a triple from Jacie Dees and a single from Alohilani Bursey.
In the top of the seventh, Elle Nelson doubled to score one and eventually advanced to third but would get stranded there as the Vikings could not complete the comeback. With the win, Missouri Baptist has made their way back to the championship game and will take on No. 2 Central Methodist at 12 p.m., on Sunday, May 3. With the loss, Grand View's tournament has come to an end.
