Bottomley, Chmelka Capture First Heart Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors of 2022
In the first installment of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Weekly awards of 2022, Central Methodist University’s Taylor Bottomley was selected the Heart Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, while Grand View University’s Caleb Chmelka earned the Heart Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor.
In the first installment of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Weekly awards of 2022, Central Methodist University's Taylor Bottomley was selected the Heart Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, while Grand View University's Caleb Chmelka earned the Heart Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor.
Bottomley and the Eagles competed at the Margaret Simmons Invite last Saturday and the senior placed first in the discus throw with a toss of 51.01m, hitting the 'A' standard for NAIA qualification at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships and placing first.
He also won the hammer throw with a mark of 60.40m and hit the 'A' standard in that event. He wasn't quite done yet, as he also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 16.36m and hit the 'A' standard in that event.
Chmelka and his Vikings teammates competed in the Viking Relays on Saturday and the senior won the 5,000m race walk in a time of 23:48.36. That time hit the 'A' Standard, qualifying him for the NAIA National Championships in May.
