William Penn Concludes Historic Season in NAIA Men’s Lacrosse Semifinals
William Penn University saw its historic postseason run come to an end Thursday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2026 NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Championship, falling 19-7 to top-seeded Madonna University in Decatur, Ala.
The Statesmen concluded the season with a 13-4 overall record after advancing to the national semifinals for the first time in program history. William Penn earned its semifinal berth following a dramatic double-overtime quarterfinal victory over Reinhardt University earlier in the week.
William Penn opened Thursday's semifinal with a strong first quarter, building a 3-0 lead behind goals from Blake Cyboron, Kenny Bohney, and Matt Scott. Madonna responded in the second quarter and carried momentum through the remainder of the contest to secure the victory and advance to the national championship game.
Scott led the Statesmen offensively with two goals, while Cyboron also scored twice. Isaac Heitschmidt recorded one goal and one assist, while Harley Williams and Bohney each added goals. Goalkeeper Connor Russell totaled 10 saves in the semifinal matchup.
Despite the loss, the Statesmen capped one of the most successful seasons in program history with a Heart Tournament championship, a national semifinal appearance, and 13 victories overall. William Penn also finished the year ranked among the top teams in the NAIA after making a deep postseason run on the national stage.
