Missouri Valley Cheer, Avila Dance Defend Titles
DES MOINES, Iowa - The Missouri Valley cheer team and Avila dance squad defended their respective titles at the 2018 Heart of America Athletic Conference Competitive Cheer and Dance Championships, Saturday afternoon at Grand View University.
Missouri Valley won the cheer division for the second-straight season, posting a score of 78.52 in the finals to edge Central Methodist at 76.30. MidAmerica Nazarene placed third with 66.69 points, while Benedictine (63.37) and Grand View (55.69) round out the top five.
Avila will hang the dance division banner for the fifth-straight campaign, holding off the hosts with a score of 79.79. Grand View tallied 75.09 for its runner-up finish, followed by Baker (73.71), Mount Mercy (62.13) and Central Methodist (59.71) in the top five.
An opportunity to compete in the NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance National Championship can be earned on Friday, February 23 when Baker hosts the NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance Southeast Regional Qualifier.
