Merkel of CMU Garners Heart Pitcher of the Week, While Mogollon of MVC Earns Player of the Week

The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its baseball weekly awards on Monday afternoon, as Central Methodist University's Nick Merkel is the Heart Pitcher of the Week, while Josias Mogollon of Missouri Valley is the Heart Player of the Week.

Merkel pitched a complete game shut out last Friday in the No. 2 Eagles' 7-0 win over Missouri Baptist. He struck out 10 batters and allowed just five hits and one walk in the victory.

Mogollon hit four home runs last week for the Vikings and scored 10 runs, as Missouri Valley played six games on the week.

In 22 at-bats, he hit .455 and drove in 8 RBI's, while posting a 1.000 slugging percentage. He went 10-of-22 at the plate, with four multi-hit games.
